Let's look at what Golf is all about.
Golf
The big question is where did golf originate? Some say the Scottish town of St. Andrews which has the world wide reputation as "the home of gold" and home to one of the most famous courses (St. Andrews). St. Andrews is also where in 1764, 18 Holes were established as the norm for a full game. Many cultures also have their own claim to being the originators of the game.
I believe Golf was based on an old Roman game called Roam. It was played with a stuffed leather ball and hit with a stick that looked like a shepherd's staff. The name was changed to Golf because the professional Golfers refused to join anything called the PRA. (Professional Roaming Association)
The Roman Roamers would yell "IV" when they would hit a wayward shot toward another player.
Golf got its name because all the other four letter words were taken.
